    Expedition to study eagles in Altai was completed

    The three-week expedition to study the birds of prey of the Mountain Altai, organized by the Russian Raptor Research and Conservation Network and Sibecocenter LLC, was completed on August 7, 2017. During the expedition, the nests of birds of prey were monitored at two long-term control sites in the North-West and South-East Altai.

    Within the framework of the project “Eagles of Russia” in July 2016, 3 Steppe Eagles and 6 Imperial Eagles are tagged with GSM/GPS loggers of companies Ecotone, Aquila and ARGOS/GPS transmitters from Microwave Telemetry, Inc.

    AltaiLes, a holding company, had finally decided to seek civilized trade partners, including IKEA and had also applied for FSC Certification and the first part of 2016 saw clearcutting or marked scheduled logging of nesting sites for raptors listed in the Red Books of the Russian Federation and Altai Krai: Eurasian eagle-owl, Eastern imperial eagle, and the Greater spotted eagle.

    April 6 – day of eagles in the lecture hall of the Russian Geographical Society in Moscow

    On April 6, 2016, two events devoted to the eagles took place in the lecture hall of the Russian Geographical Society (Moscow, Novaya Ploshchad, 10, building 2, 5th floor, travel to the metro station “Lubyanka”, “Kitai Gorod”): Round table “Eagles in the Electric Grid Environment: Problems of Survival and Ways to Solve them” and lectures by I.V. Karyakin and E.G. Nikolenko “The Eagles of Russia” – the results of 2015 and “The Steppe Eagle – a difficult life and an unenviable fate”. The lecture is open to all comers!

    In the Republic of Tatarstan 67 designated forest areas for conservation of the breeding territories of raptors will be allotted

    In 2015 in the Republic of Tatarstan 67 designated forest areas (DFA) will be allotted in 17 administrative districts. Where there will be 41 areas for the protection of the Imperial Eagle, 23 – for the White-Tailed Eagle and 3 – for the Greater Spotted Eagle.

    The Project “Eagles of Russia” received the support of the Russian Geographical Society for the second time. This time the subject was “Eagles of Russia: Electricity supply network Environment and conservation of birds,” for “Conservation of wildlife,” supervised by the Environmental commission of Russian Geographical SocietyRussian Geographic Society provided a grant (600 000 rub) for study and protection of Russia eagles – “Eagles of Russia: Electricity Grid Environment and Safety of Birds” in the nomination “Saving wildlife.” We invite everyone to help in keeping the Eagles from death electrocution!

    The 7th International Conference on the Conservation of the Eastern Imperial Eagle, October, 2-5, 2013

    Participants of the 7th International Conference on the Conservation of the Eastern Imperial Eagle

    The 7th International Conference on the Conservation of the Eastern Imperial Eagle was held between 2nd and 5th of October in Baronka hotel in Bratislava, Slovakia. Over 40 experts participated and presented results from 10 countries. 18 prestentations and 5 posters were presented. It was decided at the invitation of the Russian Raptors Research and Conservation Network the next conference in 2018 to be held in Russia.

    (Русский) Орлы – уязвимая группа птиц, которым угрожает ряд антропогенных факторов, таких как смерть от поражения от электротока на ЛЭП, отравление, браконьерский отстрел и т.п. Однако достаточно сложно получить информацию о реальном влиянии этих факторов, чтобы спланировать охрану этих видов. В рамках проекта планируется развитие Сети по цветному кольцеванию, а также по практическим мероприятиям для охраны орлов в России.

    Interactions with electric utility companies, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources on the problem of bird electrocution and retrofitting of power lines with bird protective devices is conducted. Basing on the data obtained on the breeding areas of eagles the recommendations on establishing the protected forest areas is developed.
