    November 23, 2017 Uchsyn began to cross the Nanshan mountins on the way to Tibet, passing between the five-thousanders in the upper reaches of the Shule river.

    The account of the Saker Falcons in pre-migration period in Altai mountains was completed, and the tracking of falcons with loggers continues

    Field work in the Altai Republic has been completed. One of the main goals of the August trip was to observe the migration of the Saker Falcon in the zone of movement of birds tagged with GPS/GSM loggers. 15 birds (13 young and 2 adults) were counted. The tracking of the female (tagged June 17) is continuing. For the month from July 16 to August 11, this bird expanded its area of movement (MCP) from 8 to 8,815 square kilometers, and flew over this period more than 1,5 thousand km.

    Short outcomes of the Saker Falcon reintroduction project in Southere Siberia

    Within the framework of the pilot project of the Russian Raptor Research and Conservation Network to restore the population of the Altai Saker in several areas of the Altai-Sayan region, in the summer of 2017, ten 20-27-day-old chicks of the Altaian phenotype were planted in the wild Saker’s nests. The nestlings of the Saker Falcon was grown in the LLC “Nursery of rare species birds “VITASPHERA”. 9 nestlings successfully flew out and went to live an independent life.

    Altai Saker Falcons are tagged by transmitters

    As part of the continuation of the project to revive the Saker Falcon in Southern Siberia (news on the first results of the project see on link), three Saker Falcons were tagged with GPS/GSM logges of the Polish company Ecotone. The first falcon was tagged on June 11, the other two on June 17, 2017.

    The pilot project on restoration of Saker Falcon populations in the Altai-Sayan region started in April 2017. In the Moscow nursery of rare bird species Vitasfera (headed by Eugene Sarychev), 10 nestlings of Saker Falcon were specially bred and grown for release in nature . At the end of May, at the age of 20 days, the chicks were taken to Siberia.

    The 10 Saker (6 males and 4 females) tagged dataloggers in the Altai-Sayan region in 2016. After poaching season only 4 falcons (3 males and 1 female) continued migration.

    (Русский) В июне 2012 г. спустя 12 лет повторено масштабное обследование территории Губерли, Мугоджар, бассейна Ори и верхней Эмбы и посещены все ранее выявленные гнездовые участки балобанов. Результаты оказались крайне неутешительными – балобан на данной территории полностью исчез.
